Thanks for reading and responding, Jeff. I know both passages. I also know the story of the shepherd who goes after the one lost sheep when ninety-nine are already in the fold. I’m not a universalist. I believe there are some people who are so closed to God (“hardened hearts,” to use a Biblical phrase) that God simply will never reach them. They are pure evil. But I’ve come to believe it’s not for me to say how God will deal with those who haven’t become hardened. It’s not for me to judge.
